“Yes, they could,” Sohaib agreed.

Munib said an employee he knew “had some work to do” when the destruction was revealed.

Sohaib gave more suggestions to Muneeb.

“Delete their file system too?” He said.

“Smart idea,” said Muneeb.

Sohaib wondered whether he had acted too hastily. Maybe, he said, “You should have had a murder script. Like, blackmailing them for some money—”

“No, you don’t do that, it’s evidence of crime, man,” said Muneeb.

Sohaib complained, “No, but the thing was, you always have your own opinion,” and then the two started quarreling over whether they could try blackmailing their company’s clients instead.

As the data destruction continued, Sohaib said, “They’re probably going to raid this place.”

Munib said, “I will clean up this mess.”

After erasing the database and event logs, the brothers reinstalled the operating system on their corporate laptop with the help of an unnamed co-conspirator.

Sohaib was right; Federal authorities raided them. It took only three weeks.

On March 12, 2025, a search warrant was executed at Sohaib’s home in Alexandria. Agents took much of the technical equipment, but also recovered seven firearms and 370 rounds of .30 caliber ammunition. Given his prior crimes, Sohaib should not have given any of this away.

The brothers remained free for the next nine months as the investigation progressed, but both were eventually arrested on December 3 and convicted of multiple crimes (you can read the indictment here).

Muneeb signed a plea agreement on April 15, 2026, admitting to the major charges in the indictment.

Sohaib took his case to hearing. He has lost. On May 7, 2026, a jury found him guilty of conspiracy to commit computer fraud, password smuggling, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He will be sentenced in September.
