Either way, Slushie offers something that seems increasingly rare in these times: carefree adult entertainment. The fun is even more carefree when it’s cheap, and this $200 deal on Ninja Slushie is the cheapest deal we’ve ever seen on this machine — about 40 percent less than last year’s retail price.
In fact, it’s the same price I always hoped the slushie would be. I guess, small dreams sometimes come true.
But in some ways, I’m not surprised the price has gone down. Ninja has since come out with two new, sleeker and clearly better machines. The Ninja Slushie XL ($350), arriving this spring, offers a larger capacity — 96 ounces, compared to 64 ounces for the OG Slushie — and freezes faster and colder. The cute Ninja Slushie Twist ($400) also has a more powerful compressor that lets you freeze a drink in 10 minutes, and it splits into two pots so you can always have one drink ready and the other mixed up.
I will write about the benefits of each of these soon. They are actually an improvement on the original and allow for even more drinks than the original Slushie. But none are on sale. And the original was already a pretty cool machine. Amidst the plethora of curious knockoffs, the Slushie remained my favorite home slushie machine until the arrival of these two new Ninjas.
Slushies will still make mixed margaritas much better and less watery than your blender, not to mention a decent Dole Whip or Orange Julius knockoff. It will still only take 20 minutes or so to freeze a full 64-ounce container, as long as you put your wine in the freezer like a civilized person. And lord, it’s a good price.
In fact, this Ninja Slushie deal is so good that it almost makes me believe the next generation of slushies may be in the works. Unless you’re desperate to make extra-high-ABV slushies or thick milkshakes, you probably don’t need to wait for this. (Milkshake is the weak link in this model.)
