The Hollywood Reporter writes that the as-yet-untitled film is scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles this summer. This is actually a big reason why Gosling and Daniels split. The actor requested amendments to the script, and the busy schedule did not have enough time to accommodate them.
The film’s plot “revolves around global warming, time travel, as well as a possible superhero angle. And it has two timelines, one set in the 1980s and one in the present day. The protagonists of the story are teenagers… at least in the timeline set in the 1980s.”
So there’s a twist: the role that Gosling was supposed to play, which has now gone to Damon, isn’t the lead role, it’s the role of the father of one of the teenagers.
THR states that it is a “substantial” role, but still a supporting part, and “Gosling initially agreed after thinking it needed to be bigger and asked for changes to the script, according to sources,” the trade wrote. “[The] Daniels didn’t necessarily disagree, but there was a bigger issue. Project […] Production is scheduled to begin by the end of summer or beginning of fall because it has received a California tax credit.
With Damon locked in and production starting so soon, there’s no doubt we’ll be learning more about it soon – including who will be playing the 1980s teen.
