If you don’t want to be bothered by loose or ill-fitting headphones while lifting weights or running, buy a pair that won’t move around. The Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 fit snugly in the ear, but the extra ear hook adds an extra level of security. For iOS users, these connect instantly, but Android users can also benefit from the quick Bluetooth connection.
When you’re on the go and want to be hands-free, the Powerbeats Pro 2 have external controls for answering calls or playing music. Plus, the Powerbeats brings crisp sound that helps you block out noise when you want to focus on your workout and not on the gym crowd around you. Not to mention, the Powerbeats also include a heart rate monitor for real-time readings.
The Powerbeats Pro have earned a permanent spot in my gym bag. They fit snugly in the ears and the ear hooks don’t move, no matter how much I sweat or how I move during my workout. As an iPhone user, connecting them is a dream, it happens automatically whenever I take them out of the case.
With their noise-canceling capabilities, they are able to block out noise from the gym or outside. But if you want to be able to hear the world around you for security’s sake, you can switch to Transparency mode. The sound is clear and consistent. Is this the best sound quality I’ve tested? No, but it’s still awesome.
The on-ear earbud controls are great. The Beats Fit Pro suffered from overly sensitive controls, which caused me to accidentally end a call or two. But the controls on the Powerbeats Pro 2 don’t turn off from accidental brushing. The battery life of the Powerbeats Pro 2 is incredible, up to 45 hours with the case. I think I went a whole month without charging them – even with daily use.
It wasn’t really love at first wear with the Powerbeats. At first, they’re very awkward to figure out how to fit the bud into your ear and then how to fiddle with them around. My colleague, Bethany Allard, and I tested Powerbeats and struggled through the learning curve to get them to fit, and that was a bad first impression of Beats. Although I like how customizable they are with five different ear tips, their fit is difficult to navigate at first.
However, after a few months of use, I realized that the Powerbeats Pro 2 have become my go-to gym earbuds. While other earbuds didn’t sound as good, tended to slip when things got rough, or required frequent charging, I always returned to the Powerbeats Pro 2.
