Schematik Is ‘Cursor for Hardware.’ Anthropic Wants In

“There are no barriers to your creativity anymore,” says Vermeiren, who is now also investing in Schematic. “That’s why I’m so excited about it and constantly making stuff.”

He is not alone. On Thursday, Anthropic engineer Felix Rieseberg posted on X to announce that Anthropic has now “enabled a small Bluetooth API for manufacturers and developers, allowing you to build hardware devices that interact with the cloud.” He also shared a photo and a GitHub link to a device that looks very similar to Vermeiren’s Clovy, though Rieseberg and Anthropic did not respond to WIRED’s request for comment about whether it was directly inspired by Beek or Vermeiren’s work.

“If I’ve inspired someone with this, I’m proud,” Vermeiren says. “If Anthropic made an official feature because of this, I’d be even prouder.”

It seems like almost every AI tech company is making some kind of hardware device, whether it’s giants like OpenAI, big chip makers, or more specialized wearable devices. Plus, there’s always been a rush of tinkerers and makers looking to build technology, whether it’s turning vapes into synthesizers or pushing back against ICE.

“The big problem with hardware is that it’s very limited and very few people can do it,” says Beek. “I really hope that my tool can help enable more people to build with the tool or learn to build hardware through the tool.”

Vibe coding in software has its own negative effects, given that it can lead to major vulnerabilities in software. It’s possible that Vibe coding hardware will also reach that point, or turn into a bunch of infinite hardware-slop.

“With languages or images, LLMs are more subjective about what is right or wrong,” says Beek. “The nice thing about electronics is that it’s pure physics, so you can actually investigate.”
