Procurement checks vendors, pricing, security and lead times. Reviews the finance budget. Legal can review any contract. Someone creates the purchase order, contacts the vendor, tracks the delivery, and ultimately matches the invoice with what was ordered and received. Many companies still manage most of this through email, spreadsheets, or they use procurement systems that are really expensive and yet cumbersome to operate. Jack and I experienced this firsthand at Crusoe, where we helped build the GPU data center. Existing procurement systems cost hundreds of thousands of dollars just to implement, require large teams to operate, and even then slow down business.
