On Friday, news broke of the death of actor Anthony Head, 72, best known for playing Watcher/father figure Rupert Giles on the supernatural drama. buffy the vampire slayer. Fans and former co-stars alike praised his talent on social media and expressed grief over his death.
After this, Head’s career certainly progressed. Buffy: He played the role of Uther Pendragon in the series kestrel; Prime Minister in little britain; A terrible headmaster in am a doctor episode “School Reunion”; And of course, rich, Rupert Mannion deserves ted lasso. But Giles remains his definitive role; There was even talk of a spinoff series, jigsawHowever it was never built.
There are actually very few Giles-centric episodes, which belies the character’s central importance to the series. He definitely had some of the best, most cleverly cutting lines. But Head’s true talent – and that of her character – was in quietly filling in the gaps in every scene, working together with her fellow castmates to weave a perfect tapestry. Remove that, and it diminishes everything.

An old Los Angeles classmate of Buffy’s, Ford (Billy Fordham) transfers to Sunnydale High for his senior year, and reveals that he knows she is the murderer. We soon learn that Ford has an ulterior motive for finding her. She has joined a secret “Sunset Club” whose members read a lot of Anne Rice and have romances with vampires, unaware of their demonic evil nature. Ford is not confused, but he still approaches Spike (James Marsters) with a deal: Ford will deliver Buffy to Spike, and in return Spike will turn Ford into a vampire. All other club members will be killed.
