GPT-5.5 Instant is now more capable of processing complex queries.
OpenAI has updated the GPT-5.5 instantiate, the model you interact with most when using ChatGPT, to better understand context and adapt queries when you change them to add more conditions or clarifications. The company updated the default model of ChatGPT to GPT-5.5 Instant in May. At the time, it was said that the model produced 52.5 percent fewer hallucinatory statements and 37.3 percent fewer factual errors during testing.
Now, the model has been upgraded to be more capable when it comes to identifying the underlying goal of a task or question and taking a lot of the context back and forth when you talk to it. GPT-5.5 Instant is now also better at processing complex queries and is more likely to answer the multiple points you want to address. If you clarify your question more or emphasize its answer, OpenAI says the model should adapt more effectively and give you more relevant answers instead of repeating their old answers. And since this is the default model for the company’s chatbots, you should feel these upgrades in quality of life when you use ChatGPT.
Additionally, the new GPT-5.5 can understand instant location context more effectively, so if you ask it for, for example, restaurant recommendations you might want to visit while traveling, it can offer really relevant options around you. It can also give you product recommendations and business information, as well as show you images if the chatbot decides they would be helpful to you. “Overall,” OpenAI says in its announcement, “responses should feel more tasteful and cohesive, with more natural formatting”, so that they feel and look less templated like chatbot responses currently do.
