Although her accusation is that he was unfaithful, it is Megan who is being raked over the coals by black people who operate from the mistaken belief that putting down black women is the solution to their feelings of loneliness and marginalization.

Internet memes alternately attacked him on sexual harassment charges and absurdly accused a highly successful businesswoman of being a gold digger. And although her statement suggests that she left Thompson because he was unfaithful, this estrangement is pinning the failure of the relationship on her.
On their show, “It Is What It Is”, rapper-turned-podcaster Mace and Cameron detailed a list of men with whom Megan has been romantically involved. “This whole idea with Megan Thee Stallion, I think her reputation precedes her,” Mays said. “And because his reputation precedes him, when things go a certain way, you don’t get the privilege of it.”
But what is this alleged reputation? Megan is being shamed for having the courage to be an openly sexual woman in her 30s, who has dated, dated and been loved, and been honest about her pain. “Black women are still consistently disrespected and ignored in many walks of life,” she wrote in a 2020 op-ed for The New York Times. “Black women struggle against stereotypes that are viewed as angry or threatening when we try to stand up for ourselves and our sisters,” she wrote.
Saying that she will not tolerate infidelity would be considered standing up for herself. But Stephen A. Smith considered this some kind of crime. “I don’t know what happened in their relationship. I don’t want to know, it’s none of my business and none of your business,” he said on his “Straight Shooter” YouTube show. “But Megan Thee Stallion made it so… why? How come you couldn’t just split up and go on your own merry way?”
But what would it have looked like if he had not announced it? Megan had been dating Thompson since at least July 2025 and detailed some of their happy moments to her millions of followers on Instagram. Their followers saw the former couple traveling on the boat Thompson named after them, buying a house in California, eating and reciting meals together, and even celebrating Thanksgiving with Thompson’s family.

I was among those rooting for their relationship and for Megan to eventually find her happily ever after, especially knowing that she was talking openly about the emotional turmoil she experienced as an only child who lost both her parents and her great-grandmother, who was an influential figure in her life. It’s disappointing to see her relationship fall apart so publicly, but it’s even more disappointing to see the lack of empathy being thrown her way, especially by black men.
Celebrity relationships always end, but for some reason, Meghan is being slammed for doing what many other famous people have done: processing the end of her seemingly loving partnership in public view. Instead of being treated with the light touch given to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck as they navigate an endless will-they-don’t-they dynamic, she’s being ridiculed and shamed for daring to desire a romantic love that meets her needs and her standards.
But the man she says betrayed her is released. Mace said Thompson didn’t need Megan: “He didn’t need Megan. If you’re 6’7″ and you have fair skin and good hair, you can have anybody. I think we all know that.” This suggests that Thompson is a prize, but the gorgeous and prodigiously talented Megan is not. Black women are accused of misogynoir or gender-based racism to shame us, silence us, and blame us for the actions of others, including our partners.
Misogynoir deprives black women of our dignity, strips us of our humanity and subjects us to negative stereotypes. In this view Megan is nothing more than a “Jezebel”, a hypersexual, sensual seductress who has no right to break hearts or hold standards because she has not moved away from her sexuality or her sensuality.
Megan has been the target of this Black manosphere, at least since rapper Tory Lanez was convicted of three felonies related to her shooting in 2020. Lenz, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2022. The jury hearing the case accepted the facts that Lenz had shot him, that bullet fragments were extracted from his leg, that there was gunshot residue on Lenz’s hands. But this manosphere still acts as if those facts are refuted, and that includes people taking pleasure in Megan’s misery.
Recent reports reveal an epidemic of loneliness among boys and men that is causing a growing mental health crisis. In search of connection, some of these men have fallen into the clutches of the manosphere, an online subculture where interaction is facilitated primarily by and for cisgender, heterosexual men.
Algorithms are indoctrinating these people into a harmful belief system that straight men are marginalized and need to return to their “traditional” roles.
On the surface, the manosphere serves an important purpose: people of all genders deserve a space where their existence is recognized, affirmed, validated, and supported. But, as The Manosphere Index, a report released by Precision Strategies, points out, algorithms are indoctrinating these people into a harmful belief system that straight men are marginalized and need to return to their “traditional” roles as protectors and providers to restore the natural order.
Controversial Manosphere actors, including the late Kevin Samuels, Andrew Tate, and Jordan Peterson, are preying on these people’s genuine need for connection. This impacts how these men perform in relationships and how they treat women, including Megan, who have been wronged by their male partners. De-stimulating women is not a solution to loneliness; It just perpetuates misogyny and, in the case of black women, misogyny, which makes women even less willing to form relationships with men, romantic or otherwise. It is actually unsafe to do so.
So, where does that leave Megan Thee Stallion? She is as insecure as ever, being criticized publicly on forums by men who have likely never met her and are only getting their information from other men who share similar views about her and other women. But, as is always the case, black women have Megan’s support. We will continue to affirm her, support her, and support her happiness, because if we don’t stand up for each other, who will?
