Mark Zuckerberg announces ‘completely private’ encrypted Meta AI chat

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says its new secret chat is “the first major AI product where there is no log of your conversations stored on the server.” Similar to Incognito mode on other AI chatbots, messages in Incognito Chat are not saved or stored in users’ chat history, but Meta says its version is different because it also uses end-to-end encryption, which Meta recently removed from Instagram DMs:

“Other apps have introduced secret-style modes, but they can still see incoming questions and outgoing replies. Secret Chat with Meta AI is truly private, meaning no one – not even Meta – can read your conversation.”

ChatGPT’s logs are at the center of recent lawsuits and a lawsuit last year over the mass shootings at Tumblr Ridge, Canada, and Florida State University. new York Times This includes a court order to store the conversations “indefinitely.” Google is similarly being sued by the family of a 36-year-old man who Gemini allegedly instructed to carry out a series of “missions” that led to his death.

Meta’s Secret Chat is built on the same private processing technology that was launched in WhatsApp last year for data processing and will be introduced in both WhatsApp and the Meta AI app “in the coming months.”
