After a nine-day search, Neukgu was eventually returned to the zoo, where he is now recuperating out of the social media spotlight.

But his Internet fame lives on in the form of Memecoin, launched soon after his escape. On the Memecoin website, Neukgu is described as a “brave wolf” in search of “freedom”, becoming a “symbol of freedom” as the token is considered. “He’s a wolf that won’t stay in a cage,” the website says, encouraging fans to purchase the token.

Initially, the wolf was almost captured after it was found on a mountain in drone footage, The Guardian reports, but he escaped from rescue workers deployed at the perimeter. Police also sensed trouble on the route after a driver shared footage showing Neukgu walking on the mountain road. Eventually, the wolf was “found and tranquilized on a hill near an expressway”, reports The Guardian. The only sign of it leaving the zoo was a small fishing hook that veterinarians had removed from its stomach.

However, you can still review Neukgu’s entire journey thanks to an adorable fan-made map that keeps track of reported sightings. The fake AI scene appears not to be included on the map, whose translated title is, “Where are you going wolf.”

An opinion article in the local South Korean outlet, ChoSun.com, suggested that although an elementary school was closed for a time, communities never considered Neukgu a threat. Rather, the wolf looked like “a lost puppy”. One

And although police have arrested one man for creating an AI image that allegedly hindered their search, many other Neukgu fans have turned to AI to make celebratory posts like a “Where are you going wolf” map, ChoSun.com reported. AI-generated images of “Neukgu’s Daejeon Marathon,” “Neukgu City Tour,” and “Neukgu Escape Route Tracking” have been widely shared.
