Leaked images reveal Sony’s 10th anniversary ‘ColleXion’ headphones

We now have a good idea of what Sony’s upcoming 10th anniversary headphones will look like ahead of their expected launch tomorrow. A leaked image of Sony’s 1000X “The ColleXion” edition has been shared online by OnLeaks. HotEUDealsShowcasing thicker leather padding and “generously sized” earcups compared to Sony’s current WH-1000XM6 series.

We were expecting these headphones after the name “ColleXion” briefly appeared on Sony’s websites in April along with the over-ear headphone model number “WH-1000XX”, but there were no accompanying images at the time. Now, not only can we see the full design of the headphones and its accessories, but the information shared along with the images confirms the May 19 launch date and price. It says the ColleXion will be available in the US for $649 – $200 more than the XM6 flagship at launch.

For that high price, you’re getting a choice of black or white color options and some premium-looking design elements, including the color-matched metal yoke that connects the headband to the headphone drivers. The buttons attached to the earcups are also more prominent, and the microphone grilles have been redesigned from the usual mesh cavities to larger holes that appear to punch straight through the earcup chassis.

The leaked launch marketing slides also include key specifications. That said, users can expect up to 24 hours of battery life or up to 32 hours with ANC disabled HotEUDeals. That noise cancellation is powered by the V3 co-processor along with the QN3 processor that’s already used in the XM6. Sony has also reportedly partnered with three studios – Battery Studios, Sterling Sound and Coast Mastering – who mastered the Grammy-winning record to help tune Colaxion’s custom audio drivers.

The launch includes a carrying case to store the headphones, which includes a USB-C cable for charging and a 3.5mm cable for wired playback. The case is a notable deviation from Sony’s previous designs – it looks like a handbag, with a built-in handle and magnetic closure instead of the usual zipper. At least it doesn’t look like a bra (I’m looking at you, Apple AirPods Max.)
