Apple CEO Tim Cook will step down effective September 1, 2026. As long-rumored, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternes will become Apple’s new CEO.
While Cook will no longer serve as CEO, he will remain with the company in a different capacity as executive chairman.
Apple says, “As executive chairman, Cook will assist in certain aspects of the company, including connecting with policymakers around the world.”
In a statement, Cook offered general positive words about his tenure as CEO:
Becoming CEO of Apple and being trusted to lead such an extraordinary company has been the greatest privilege of my life. I love Apple with all my heart, and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a team of ingenious, innovative, creative, and deeply caring people who have been unwavering in their dedication to enriching the lives of our customers and creating the best products and services in the world.
Turnus added his own statement to the announcement: “I am grateful to step into this role, and I promise to lead with the values and vision that have defined this special place for half a century.”
