The outgoing Apple leader will deliver a keynote speech announcing new software features for Siri, iOS and Apple’s artificial intelligence efforts. This is likely to be the last look at the company’s vision from the leader who focused on turning Apple into a major subscription business.
The WWDC keynote begins on Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. Eastern). You can watch the livestream right here on this page, or on Apple’s WWDC website. It will also play live on YouTube and Apple TV app.
WIRED will be running a live blog, so you can follow along for a drip feed of announcements. We’ll also have a roundup of upcoming changes to iOS, macOS, and everything else Apple introduced during the show.
As usual for these incidents, the market of rumors has been hot. Here’s what to expect from Apple’s announcements at WWDC.
AI OS
As it happens at every WWDC, Apple is bound to announce new software operating systems for its products. These should all carry the OS 27 moniker, as Apple has recently adopted the car industry naming strategy of labeling its operating systems for the coming year. This means iOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, etc.
It seems Apple is eager to boost performance in its operating system, prioritizing improvements and stability over big new features. There is sure to be a bundle of AI infusions, branded as Apple’s Intelligence Features. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is likely to introduce some new AI-powered features that will let you create your own digital passes for events and split bills by taking photos of receipts.
siri supersized
Everyone is waiting for the big Siri glow-up.
Apple’s virtual assistant has been a problem for the company for some time now, often being more frustrating than useful. It was supposed to be revamped with Apple Intelligence a few years ago, but it was delayed. Now, at last, Apple is expected to announce its big Siri update, boosted by its partnership with Google to integrate Siri with Gemini AI.
Apple and Google’s partnership is in the works through 2024, but neither company confirmed details until a joint statement in January that called for a “multi-year collaboration” with Google Gemini to boost Apple Intelligence features. That statement also promised that “a more personalized Siri is coming this year.” WWDC seems like a good time for such news to come out.
