who’s afraid of the next one GTA? Based on the past few days of Summer Game Fest, just about everyone. grand theft auto vi Was not present at any of the main events, but his presence was felt whenever the release date was announced. the month of November, when GTA VI The launch is, in fact, empty. Meanwhile, the rest of autumn is in full swing.
It debuted at Sony’s State of Play showcase on Tuesday. Even before that show, we knew it wolverineThe next big PlayStation exclusive will launch on September 15th. But it has now added several major third-party titles: Dune: Awakening (22 September), control resonator (24 September), Silent Hill: Townfall (24 September), Onimusha: Path of the Sword (25 September), and ace combat 8 (2 October). This is on top of other games already announced for launch before November Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 In October.
Meanwhile, at SGF Live this evening, several of the biggest games moved even further, with launches planned in 2027. Includes: Sega’s Crime Epic stranger than heaven and its virtue fighter by-product Crossroad; Bandai Namco gundam rogue class; Capcom’s “massive expansion”. Monster Hunter Wilds; clutchdebut forza-Like the racers from Maverick Games; and Telltale’s wolf among us 2. Big reveal of the evening, final fantasy vii revelationWon’t be out until next spring.
And while Xbox’s keynote won’t be until Sunday, it’s already laid things out GTAway of. when he announced it fable There will be a delay once again, this time to 2027, with Microsoft saying part of the reasoning is that this is “a year full of incredible games,” and then quoted GTA VI In addition to other titles, by name.
Of course, not all of these titles specifically changed their date. GTABut at least some of them did. This is also not a completely new phenomenon. last year, when silksong It got a surprise release date in September, with other indie titles changing their plans to stay away from it. in some ways, GTA VI Similar, as it is the long-running development follow-up to a massive hit. But GTA It’s also obviously on a much larger scale: these aren’t small indie studios that are changing their plans, they’re some of the biggest publishers in the industry, including Sony, Microsoft, and Capcom.
The logic makes sense to some extent. GTA VI As close as it is to a guaranteed hit. It is the follow-up to the game that has not only sold nearly 230 million copies across three console generations, but also continues to make money through a lucrative online mode. there is every possibility GTA VI It won’t match those lofty figures, but it will definitely sell a lot of copies nonetheless. Strauss Zelnick, CEO GTA Publisher Take-Two said in a recent earnings call that it expects “the November 19 launch to set new record levels of operating performance.” grand theft auto vi” even suggest a new GTA VI The trailer is enough to create a buzz on the internet.
But while everyone has the same idea of how to avoid November, it creates a different kind of problem: a complete halt to major releases over the next few months, especially in September, when many major games are now arriving on the same day. Is it really better to be around GTA?
When? The Verge Asked control resonator Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen talked about this at a recent preview event, saying he was not impressed by the sheer number of games launching in the same window. “We are confident in our game,” he explained. “We feel like we’re in a good place, we have a very specific, unique experience and we believe in it.”
Of course, there is one notable absence from that list of companies dodging GTAAnd that’s Nintendo. The company has not yet detailed its holiday plans, and instead focused on upcoming titles launching soon star Fox (25 June), Rhythm Heaven Groove (July 2) and splatoon attackers (23 July). But other than that the calendar is empty, so there’s almost certainly a big announcement (or announcements) coming that will reveal the games that will power the Switch 2 during the all-important holiday season.
If there’s any company that will buck the industry trend and launch a major title in November, it would be Nintendo.
