In late 2025, Google began releasing new icons with a gradient design. Now it seems that other Google apps are also going to get a new look. 9to5Google It’s got images of the new icons, which ditch the same circle design that Google tries to cram into every color of the logo.

In general, the look is soft. The corners are rounded, the gradients gradually transition from almost pastel to more saturated Google primary colors. We’ve already seen this new design language in updated versions of the Google G logo, as well as in Gemini, Photos, and Maps. according to 9 to 5, This represents the presence of AI-powered features.

The new icons are more playful, vibrant, and diverse, reflecting recent design trends that have moved away from the flat look of the late 2010s and early 2020s. Google Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, and Keep all abandon the portrait-oriented Paper look. Many of them shift to landscape layout, which is more appropriate – when was the last time you saw a vertical PowerPoint presentation?

Most of the icons feel like improvements. They are more visually distinct and often adopt a single color, such as Chat, which swaps the four-color speech bubble outline for a green blob with a smile inside that is reminiscent of the Google Hangouts icon. It’s unclear when the new-look icons will start rolling out, but it’ll likely be sooner rather than later.
