first trailer for clayfaceDirected by James Watkins, is finally here, and it shows very clearly that this release from DC Studios helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran is unique. This is a completely David Cronenberg-inspired, body horror film about a character best known for fighting Batman. This is all very unexpected. And yet, as brought to life by Tom Rice Harris, we think clayface Chances are he’ll step out of the Bat-shaped shadow and carve out his own place in superhero film lore. Here’s the trailer, which is the same one we saw at CinemaCon last week.
Apart from that terrifying final shot, the first thing that strikes you is the sound. Obviously, it’s a terrible song, but the way the trailer almost scratches the record every time it cuts to another scene. There are some flashbacks to better times. Others show that the film will give us full scope for change. And everyone works together to actually catch us.
There’s also that great, very brief tease of Clayface’s signature club fist move, which can only be seen in shadow here. Apparently, the final film will give us the full-bodied, hilarious Clayface we know and love, but DC isn’t ready to reveal that yet. Or, more likely, the visual effects aren’t ready yet. Either way, this trailer has us more excited for the movie than ever, and that’s the main thing.
