
Jake Schreyer, who created the Marvel Misfits team-up last year from lightningis directing the X-Men movie, and has teamed up on a few from lightning Script collaborator to help him write it: Netflix creator Lee Sung Jin beefAnd Bear Co-showrunner Joanna Callow.
Not much is known about the story yet. But Lee offered a tease in a new Deadline interview. When asked what it’s like to return to the MCU for an X-Men film, after so much creative freedom beefHe said he actually felt more limited while working from lightning.
“I would say there were actually more parameters from lightning Because it was plugging into an existing arc and existing characters, whereas the X-Men, with Kevin [Feige] I just want to make a big change and start fresh, not be beholden to any film that came before,” Lee said. ”And Jake Schreiber has a clear vision of the desire to get back to the first character and what’s exciting about those early ones. [Chris] Comics run by Claremont, which was all about team dynamics. There were a lot of soapy elements in those comics. We’ve been in the room together every day. kevin and louise [D’Esposito] They’re so dialed-in, and they have such incredible instincts that it’s fun to be in the blue-sky.
Lee explained that he has been a longtime X-Men fan. He loves comics and used to watch TV shows with his father on Saturday mornings. “So to be able to look around this Marvel conference room and see every X-Men character on the board and be like ‘What about this guy?’ But to be able to spitball and freestyle. [is] So courageous, because you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, this is not going to be a safe movie. It’s going to be a really exciting new experience.”
Their target audience, well, is themselves. “It’s, ‘Would I want to run into a movie theater to see this when I’m young? Are we respecting all the amazing work established by the comics? Are we playing it safe? Are we pushing things further?’ It’s just trying to look back at my childhood, which was loving these characters, and make sure we’re doing right for her and all the other fans who love the X-Men,” Lee explained.
