I know, that’s a lot of complaints. But if you just need something simple and “good enough”, the Logitech Brio 300 will do the job and will definitely have better low light performance than an older option like the Logitech C920. If your room has good lighting, the Brio 300 will still be superior to your laptop’s webcam in terms of image quality.
The difference between $150 and $50 is pretty big, but honestly, there aren’t too many good options among the ones I’ve tested. Check out my honorable mentions below for some other options in between, but frankly, I’ve yet to see a $100 webcam that really feels like it’s worth the extra money. My next one I’m looking forward to testing is the Anker Ankerworks C310, a 4K upgrade to the C200 from a few years ago. It costs $100 and has a larger 1/2.5-inch sensor.
Best PTZ Webcam
PTZ, also known as pan-tilt-zoom webcam, is the latest hotness in the world of home office cameras. As the name suggests, these are far more versatile than a standard webcam. Essentially, the camera sits on a gimbal and can follow you around the room using face-tracking. They can pan far to the left or right, tilt up and down, and use digital zoom. This is a fairly advanced feature set, and probably not the kind of thing that most people shopping for a webcam really need. But if you use your webcam for streaming, giving presentations, teaching courses, or really anything else that involves being on camera while you walk around the room, you’ll probably need it. even if you don’t need One, you will probably get an inspiration from all the experiments they can do.
There are some good options, but the best option is Obsbot Tiny 3 ($349). That’s too bad, because this is the most expensive webcam I tested at $349. This is probably more than most people will spend on a webcam, but it produced the best color accuracy overall. This camera replicated real-life color without looking overprocessed, better than any other webcam I’ve tested — even more than what the Insta360 cameras can do. I still prefer the low-light performance of the Insta360 cameras, but the Obsbot Tiny 3’s colors are more natural. It can also shoot in 1080p at 120 frames per second, although I’m not sure what the use case is for that.
There is also a cheaper version of Obsbot Obsbot Tiny 3 Lite ($179)Which may very well be the PTZ webcam that most people should buy due to its low price. This is a small step up in image quality, as it uses a smaller camera sensor. Most notably, you don’t get as much natural background blur and the performance in low light is also not as strong. But this is one of the most economical ways to get PTZ features without much degradation in quality. And really, it’s those PTZ features that you buy these cameras for.
In its latest release, Obsbot has introduced several interesting new ways to control the gimbal using AI. It can track objects, follow your voice, and gives you some audio modes that will be helpful for specific use cases. For example, someone may be. There’s also a feature that allows you to use preset voice commands to control the gimbal, like choosing between a preset angle or zoom in. All of the previous software features are still present, which are too extensive to list here, but include setting customizable preset angles, desk mode, multiple speeds of head tracking, and more. There’s so much to play with, which is what makes this PTZ camera so much fun.
However, if you like Insta360’s design, the company has a PTZ version of the Link 2C Pro that I recommended above. Insta360 Link 2 Pro ($250) The picture and microphone quality are exactly the same, with the added features of being able to pan, tilt and zoom. (There is also a cheaper model Insta360 Link 2 ($200).) Its main advantage over the Obsbot Tiny 3 is that it’s a full $100 cheaper. This is important, even if the color accuracy is not as good. For its price, I preferred the way it handles low-light scenarios a little better than the Obsbot Tiny 3. The Tiny 3 was definitely overexposed right out of the box.
While the Insta360 Link 2 Pro isn’t as full-featured as the Obsbot cameras in terms of AI trickery, I do like that you can control the gimbal using your phone to make adjustments. Instead of relying solely on desktop software or voice commands, Insta360 cameras let you quickly pull up controls in your phone’s browser after scanning the QR code, which is very useful.
