Backend Engineer, Thinking Systems at GovernGPT

about the team

We’re a YC-backed, profitable startup building agents to automate the most manual, critical task of managing multi-billion dollar investments – fundraising. Every day, Tier 1 funds rely on our product to close new investors and update existing investors.

We manufacture with the latest equipment. Every role on our tight-knit, all-engineer team has incredible autonomy to go out and delight our users. If you want to take a closer look at coding agents, building knowledge graphs, or explore new async ways of ingesting data at scale, you can do so here – everything we do is innovative at its core.

This is just the beginning, we have many big plays planned in partnership with our clients to transform the way trillions of dollars of private capital are allocated in the global financial markets.

about the role

Our users rely on logic systems enabled at scale by metadata-rich databases and scalable backends to trust decisions made by AI to automate real work. You will work directly with the CTO to own the database across the 3 pillars we prioritize in our technology organization to realize agents (logic, database, and interface). This means building autonomous systems to enrich the data, serving it securely and efficiently, while collaborating with the ICs responsible for logic and interfaces.

It is basically a high-trust environment where we work as a cohesive innovation unit to develop what is possible with the LLM. Your fit must be technical as well as cultural.

In this role, you:

  • Architect backend services for scalable and reliable pre-processing of documents to be consumed by logic systems for more stochastic output.
  • Own the design and delivery of new data models to enable advanced reasoning.
  • Maintain interfaces that are optimized for use by coding agents and designers of other service layers (interfaces and logic).
  • Be responsible for the reliability of services in production and work directly through our PaaS layer on Kubernetes to manage zero downtime deployments.
  • Contribute to all of our automated infrastructure that drives us to build more through coding agents, automated preview environments, testing, etc.
  • Develop patterns for agents to operate safely under constraints in secure environments.
  • Customize your role as our team scales to focus on the aspects you love most.
  • Work directly with a team of cross-disciplinary, A-player technologists who will give you the biggest challenge of your career.

you are:

  • You’re passionate about what you do, you’ve forged your own path and don’t mind taking unconventional career steps.
  • Have experience seeing systems produced, broken and fixed.
  • Can be self-directed in their exploration and lead as an independent contributor.
  • A team player where you like to own your own competencies but you know that the output of a great group is more than just additive.
  • As the discipline of engineering fundamentally changes, remain eager to learn, grow, and adopt the latest tools.
  • Looking for a team that will give you more than your usual work?

How to stand out:

Write to us about your unique skills and passions, how you like to work, what you believe about the future, the time you bet big on yourself, or anything else you think can help you stand out as a first-principles, independent thinker. Less is more, we are only looking for exceptional team fit.
