@Amp has been one of my favorite coding agents since the IDE era.
When context compilation wasn’t yet a clear default, and people were still constantly switching threads, Amp’s handoff idea really impressed me. Even their experiment with ads supporting broader reach felt like a bold and unusual product move.
Which is why I wasn’t surprised when they announced they were going to do this – although still a little surprised. self destructing old version to make everything fresh. The team at Amp has always had a fearless rebuilding mentality, and now it’s paying off.
Meet Neo – the new AMP CLI. Remote control from the web, automatic compaction instead of manual handoff, a proper plugin API, queuing + steering, and better performance. It feels like the same spirit, but clearly built for 2026 and beyond.
If you like vintage amps, this is worth a quick look.
