On Saturday, Georgian figure skaters Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava performed based on the popular fighting game, with Berulava dressed as Sub-Zero and Metelkina as Kitana. The entire performance, which you can watch below, has some fun nods to the games: Not only does the iconic theme song play, the skaters bounce back and power up like the idle animations in earlier games, they incorporate basic attacks into their routines. It’s a good performance, and the judges seemed to agree, as it earned 75.46 points and the pair won the silver medal, ahead of Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara.

mortal Kombat It has been referenced many times in popular culture, and usually by being played or referenced in music or simply in movies or TV. However, it doesn’t always get a big sporting boost – unless you played band in high school or went to a football game, in which case, you’ve probably heard a version of the theme from time to time. Its inclusion here in the Olympics is great, and speaks to the lasting legacy of the franchise despite it likely being MIA for the next few years as the Netherlands work on their next game. At least we get a second reboot movie in a few months.
