Trump’s phone may not be completely vaporware after all
Trump Mobile CEO Pat O’Brien previously announced that the devices would begin shipping last week, and it appears that promise has been at least partially fulfilled, as tech journalists began receiving the devices a few days ago.
Just a quick recap: The Trump Phone was announced last June, marketed as a gold “Made in America” Android device that a single user could run for just $500. After this the company started pre-order for $100 for the device. Shortly after, users realized that the “Made in America” label was too good to be true, and as the release deadline approached, many believed it would all be proven to be a scam. The terms and conditions of the device were an even bigger mystery, including a stipulation that Trump Mobile could not guarantee that the device would ever be released. It’s totally normal to get involved.
The Verge then reported on an official FCC listing that appeared to confirm O’Brien’s comments. A few days later, Trump Mobile executives confirmed to the press that customer data was being leaked onto the open Internet due to a third-party platform provider.
At least the phone is here.
unboxing the trump phone
Our colleagues at CNET have done the full unboxing, and it, contrary to popular belief, is real: a golden smartphone complete with an engraved American flag logo (but only 11 stripes instead of 13).
mashable light speed
It comes in a sleek black box, decorated with the same minimalist flag motifs — like those baseball caps your uncle wears — and only written “Assembled in the USA,” not MADE IN THE USA, so the jury is still out on the origins of the phone’s manufacturing. Inside the box is a wall plug, braided USB-C cord, and a SIM card tool, CNET reports.
The device’s camera bump is marked with a Trump Mobile logo (that is, simply the words “Trump Mobile”). As NBC News reports, it is taller than the iPhone 17 and has a thinner screen bezel with a camera cutout. To the trained eye, it looks almost identical to the 2024 HTC U24 Pro, which is similar to the mockups released earlier this year.
Trump phone specifications: storage, display, headphone jack?
The phone comes with 512GB of storage and – wait a minute – a headphone jack?! This is correct; Since the public yearns for the days of analog technology, Trump is bringing back the mobile jack.
The device features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen and a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. It is powered by a 5,000-mAh battery and uses an unnamed Snapdragon mobile platform.
According to preliminary testing by CNET’s Patrick Holland, the phone has an 8-core processor, which he believes to be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. He compares the performance of the Trump mobile phone to 2020-2022 Android phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on standard benchmark tests.
The CNET team will be testing the phones over the weekend and posting live reviews. NBC’s Brian Cheung said: “It works like any other phone.”
T1 comes with Truth Social preloaded. Oh.
Last but not least, the phone comes with the Truth Social app that automatically downloads to every user’s home screen.
And that’s okay, because there’s nothing strange about a US president creating his own social media platform for free speech and then preinstalling it on a communications device branded directly with his last name.
