If you haven’t heard of him, it’s because of his breakout film, PassionIt has not come to theaters yet. However, it’s coming on May 15, meaning horror fans can finally see the film that io9’s own Germaine Lussier has been excited about ever since he was lucky enough to see an early screening at the 2025 Fantastic Fest. The trailers have built up our excitement about seeing this story of a cute guy who makes a magical wish to get the girl of his dreams… then he feels intense, horrible regrets about it.
barker is No From Texas, but otherwise he seems to fit in. Variety received news on his appointment, reporting that the film “has been billed by insiders as a ‘reimagining’ of the 1974 horror classic created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel” and “Barker’s vision for the famed killer Leatherface and the group of young things he terrorizes has been kept under wraps.”
The trade also reminds us that, as previously mentioned, a Texas Chainsaw The TV series is still in the works “from Barnstorm’s Glen Powell and Dan Cohen and director JT Molnar.” No word yet on how the two projects will connect, if at all.
Barker is currently busy with another horror film, anything but ghostsWhich is under the Blumhouse banner and will see him direct, co-write and star in it. It feels more like a horror comedy; Variety described it as “centering on two rookie paranormal investigators who are forced to confront real ghosts and the lies that underlie their business.”
What do you think about A24 appointing Barker to lead the charge? Texas Chainsaw Massacre In its (inevitably gory) next chapter?
