Bloomberg reported that Disney’s new CEO Josh D’Amaro wants to create a kind of “super app” that would blend the streaming functionality of Disney+ with other apps built for real-life experiences, like the Disney Cruise Line Navigator. The idea would be to put Disney’s very important theme park, resort and cruise line businesses in front of more people than usual, though at this stage, it’s not entirely clear whether this will manifest mostly as ads or a deeper layer of app functionality.

“Disney+ has become the primary connection between Disney and its fans, the place where everything comes together,” D’Amaro said in an earnings call this week.

Like anything else, it also has advantages and disadvantages.
On the one hand, if you are a Real Disney-heads, it would probably be more convenient to use the same app to watch The Mandalorian And book a trip to Orlando, compared to the way things are currently working. On the other hand, there are probably a lot of people (myself included) who like to watch things on Disney+ occasionally, but have no real interest in Disney’s cruise line or theme parks. For those viewers, it may be a bit annoying or cumbersome.
At any rate, it seems like this is still a very early plan, so it may take a while for this to happen, or it may not happen at all. Maybe by the time it arrives, the environment around cruise ships will be better than it is now.
