Stop using your Casely Power Pods wireless charger immediately

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) announced that Casely is recalling its Power Pods 5,000mAh MagSafe E33A charger after the faulty devices caused dozens of injuries and even one death. It is recommended that you stop using the devices immediately, dispose of them safely and demand a replacement from the manufacturer.

A year ago, Casely and the USPSC recalled 429,000 units of power banks with model number E33A. This was followed by 51 incidents of devices “overheating, exploding or catching fire” and in several cases causing burns to users.

However, many devices remain in use and are even more dangerous than initially thought. “In August 2024, a 75-year-old New Jersey woman was charging her cell phone with a power bank on her lap when it caught fire and exploded,” the USCPSC reported. “The victim suffered second and third degree burns and later died of complications from her injuries.” In another incident this year, a 47-year-old woman was charging her phone on a plane when it caught fire and exploded, leaving her with first-degree burns.

As a result, according to the commission, the recall has been reissued due to “the risk of serious injury or death to consumers from fire and burn hazards.”

Defective Casely Power Pods 5,000mAh chargers can be identified by the Casely embossed logo on the front and model number E33A on the back. It was sold between 2022 and 2024 at various online retailers including getcasely.com and Amazon.

Casely is offering free replacement units as a remedy (it’s unclear if you can get a full refund). Those looking for one should write “Recall” in permanent marker on the battery pack and submit a photo along with another photo showing the E33A model number as pictured above. Owners are instructed to contact a facility that handles lithium-ion batteries and dispose of them. Do not dispose of them with regular household waste, recycling, or standard battery disposal bins due to the risk of fire and explosion.
