This is how Stephen Colbert started his last late show The monologue, which he assures us will be just like a regular monologue – until the celebrity guests start appearing.
First up is Bryan Cranston, who asks if Colbert is planning on making any surprise cameos. “No Brian,” Colbert says. “They always feel forced.”
Next comes Paul Rudd, who wants to know when his interview starts. “I have a very long poem I want to recite and I don’t want to waste time,” Rudd says, before revealing that he bought Colbert the “traditional retirement gift” of six bananas.
Colbert tells him that the traditional retirement gift is a gold watch, to which Rudd asks what should he do with these five bananas?
“I thought a moment ago you said it was six o’clock?” Colbert says.
“I’m hungry!” Rudd yells. “Interview me now!”
