Sealed Super Mario Bros. sells for a record $3 million

a copy of Super Mario BrosStill in the box and sealed with its original stickers, sold for $3 million at a heritage auction. This completely shatters the previous record of $2 million, that too for a single copy Super Mario BrosIn 2021. That sale also came on the heels of a controversial auction super mario 64 For $1.56 million.

One reason this particular copy commanded such a high price is that according to Heritage Auctions, this 19895 second run was sealed with a glossy sticker rather than shrink wrap, which was discontinued shortly thereafter. The site claims this is the oldest known sealed copy of the game in existence. It is also graded at 9.6 A++ by the professional sports authenticator.

The price of vintage gaming collectibles has skyrocketed over the past few years. Just in July of 2020, Heritage Auctions set the record for the highest price paid for a game at auction, again, with a copy of Super Mario BrosFor $114,000. Six years later, it feels like a done deal.

If the winner of the auction decides to do the unthinkable and break the seal placed on the game, Heritage Auctions is offering a NES console.
