For context, the last full Nintendo Direct aired in September of last year. Sometimes, Nintendo spends a long time between these streams, but for the most part, the company is maintaining a rhythm, and based on past Nintendo Directs, we should be getting an event of some kind in the near future. The Switch 2 is now available in full force, but we only have a vague idea of what to expect from it in 2026, so the Direct will go a long way in letting users set their calendars for the big release.
Let’s take a look at these rumors and talk about when to expect a potential Nintendo Direct and what we might see in it.

Nintendo Direct February 2026 rumors: When will it happen?
A trio of sources that have proven largely reliable in the past are all reporting that there will be a Nintendo Direct on Thursday, February 5th.
Those sources include Video Games Chronicle, famous leaker NateTheHate, and popular YouTube channel GameXplain. They’re all circling this date specifically, so we’ll have to go ahead and work under the assumption for now that Thursday is when we’ll learn about the upcoming Switch and Switch 2 games.

However, one thing worth noting is that they’re all saying this will be a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, a special type of Direct that Nintendo has done in the past. These operate slightly differently from regular Directs, in that first-party flagship Nintendo games appear only rarely, if at all. If this Direct is real and if it is indeed a partner showcase, I wouldn’t expect Mario, Zelda, or anything like them to be mentioned in any capacity.
Nintendo Direct February 2026: What to expect
It’s extremely difficult to speculate ahead of time about a Nintendo Direct stream because Nintendo is supernaturally good at keeping secrets. Leaks do happen here and there, but for the most part, we never really know what to expect in these streams. He said, if we work with the principle that this is a partner showcase and not a traditional direct, that gives us Some? to work with.
For example, several high-profile third-party games have been announced for the Switch 2 in 2026. These include 007: first light, Switch 2 version of alden ringAnd perhaps most fascinatingly, FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods. Other than those games, it’s very hard to say what we’ll see in this Direct.
If the rumors are true, I’d be cautious to assume this stream won’t be worth watching since it’s not a full-scale Nintendo Direct. Previous Partner Showcases have included big announcements; Octopath Traveler 0For example, one of the best games of 2025 was announced during one of these showcases.
Just have faith and remember that Nintendo isn’t the only company that makes good Switch games.
