Our goal with Saros is to promote the hardware and be a showcase for PlayStation 5. So we’re thrilled to finally share more details about our PS5 Pro enhancements and PS5 features in Saros launching on April 30th (wishlist or pre-order Saros here).

Updated PSSR for PS5 Pro

Our amazing rendering team has upgraded PSSR support in Saros to the new version of PSSR Upscaler released in March. This update provides an even clearer image; When you explore Carcosa you won’t be able to tell it apart from the original 4K. Since 1995, our goal at Housemark has been to promote hardware, and with Saros we continue this mission thanks to this PSSR update.

Base render resolution increased on PS5 Pro

Seppo Halonen, our Technical Director at Housemark, wanted to share more specifics on how we increased our base render resolution for Saros on PS5 Pro.

“On PlayStation 5 Pro we’ve also increased our base render resolution, which is the resolution before upscaling. This means that on PS5 Pro, you’ll have an even sharper high-resolution image at 60 fps. While we use dynamic resolution to ensure stable frame rates even in the midst of hectic combat, PS5 Pro always delivers a sharper image in a scene-by-scene comparison.

Saros on PS5 already looks incredible and runs at a stunning 60fps, but for PS5 Pro we push our graphics even further. Additionally, there are several small adjustments to reflections and overall quality, ensuring that the increase is not only more pixels, but also the content we render is at a scale to match. The only place where we switch to 30fps is the main story cinematics where we go quality over quantity and render high-quality characters, lighting and postprocessing at peak resolution – which is again higher on the PS5 Pro.

Precise 3D audio developed

Building on our success from Returnal, we have evolved our 3D audio to deliver an even more immersive experience on PlayStation 5 with our Tempest 3D AudioTech. When playing with 3D Audio enabled headphones or 3D Audio sound setup you can hear the music of Lost Carcosa, Hostiles and even ours all around you. Our amazing sound and music team at PlayStation Creative Arts has created an amazing sonic experience. I can’t wait for you to experience it.

Advanced weapons with adaptive triggers

Similarly, we wanted to take things to the next level by using the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers in Saros. When using the adaptive trigger on L2, if you pull it halfway down you will activate your main weapon’s alt fire. This allows for alternative attacks, including grenade launchers, slow-firing heavy rounds, ricochet projectiles, and more. If you pull the L2 Adaptive Trigger all the way down, you will activate your Eclipse powered power weapon. This allows you to launch a strong counter-attack using projectiles collected from your Soltari shield. These options increase the rhythm and flow of combat, making the action in Saros even more exciting.

Immersion-driven haptic feedback

We love the haptic feedback of the DualSense wireless controller and how it brings you closer to the physical experience in our games. For Saros, we’ve once again put a lot of detail, thought and nuance into our haptics. We want you to feel every action, world building, and our terrifying story that pulls you into our world. If you liked what we did in Returnal, I think we developed it even further. I don’t want to spoil it, but there are very special things to experience during your time at Saros.

Near instant fast loading

With Saros we also make the most of the PS5’s Ultra High-Speed ​​SSD, allowing you to instantly return to the action after death, or enhance gameplay, audio and visuals when you activate Eclipse, creating a whole new experience.

Pre-order Digital Deluxe for 48 hours early access

For those who want the deluxe Saros experience: You will be able to play Saros 48 hours before launch on April 30, 2026 with our Digital Deluxe Edition and PlayStation Studios Celebration Suite, which includes Returnal, God of War, and Ghost of Yotei.

Players who pre-order Saros or Saros Digital Deluxe before launch can also unlock the Hands of Shor armor. A Digital Deluxe Edition upgrade can also be purchased separately for players who purchased the physical version of Saros.
