Production Debugging Games for Software Engineers – The Incident Challenge

Hey Product Hunt!

I’m excited to share the event challenge with you.

The idea started from something we kept seeing: AI can now write code. Lots of code.

But as soon as production breaks, the hard part is usually not writing the fix.

This is to understand what really happened. Where to look. What to ignore. Which pesky details matter.

It is this (human) skill that we wanted to turn into a game. That’s why we created The Incident Challenge: A Production Debugging Game for Engineers.

You get trapped in a realistic broken system. what you get:

Logs, code, configuration, documentation, architecture diagrams, confusing symptoms, and a ticking clock.

Your job: Find the root cause. Fix it. Deploy the solution. Beat the leaderboard.

And yes, you can use AI agents.

But the challenge is designed in such a way that AI alone is usually not enough.

This can help you go faster, but you still need real engineering instincts to win.

The idea became very popular on Reddit and today we have over 300 developers participating.

Some people solve a single incident within minutes. Others take longer.

That difference is what makes it fun.

The challenge is live now, so feel free to give it a try, and you just might win!

Would really love your feedback, ideas for future events and brutal honesty on whether this sounds like something engineers would want to play.
