If your spider-sense is tingling, it’s probably because Prime Video has released the official full trailer for its upcoming live action series, spider-noirat CCXPMX26 in Mexico City over the weekend. As was the case with the first teaser in February, the streaming platform released the trailer in two formats: one in black and white (above) – very Raymond Chandler-esque – and the other in color (below), which showrunners are calling “True Hue.”
As previously reported, Marvel Comics created its “noir” line in 2009, reinterpreting familiar Marvel characters in an alternate universe, usually set during the Great Depression in America. A version of the Spider-Noir character, voiced by Cage, appeared briefly in the animated masterpiece, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and across the spider-verse (2023). (He is set to reprise that role in an upcoming film beyond spider-verse.)
Co-showrunner (with Steve Lightfoot) Oren Uziel is a fan of film noir, so the Marvel series naturally appealed to him. The live-action series is still based in 1930s New York, but without the spidery superhero Peter Parker. (Uziel thought Parker’s character stuck to a childish high school type, which didn’t really fit the noir vibe.) So Cage is playing Ben Reilly, a hard-boiled PI with a secret superhero identity, The Spider. According to official basis: “spider-noir tells the story of Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a veteran private investigator in 1930s New York who, after a deep personal tragedy, is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s only superhero.
