PARIS—More than 20 years after making his French Open debut, Stan Wawrinka made his final appearance at Roland Garros on Monday.
The 41-year-old was defeated by lucky loser Jasper de Jong 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. After the competition, Wawrinka was honored on the court in a ceremony that included congratulatory messages from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
Wawrinka won the second of his three major titles here 11 years ago and was also the runner-up in 2017. Due to end his career on home soil in Basel at the end of this season, he finished with 46 wins in clay-court majors.
