New Claude for Nonprofits offers free training and reduced costs

AI developer Anthropic is honoring this Giving Tuesday with new training and features for its popular chatbot, Cloud, designed specifically for the needs of nonprofits.

The Cloud for Nonprofits package provides nonprofit organizations with discounted cloud access (up to 75 percent off); Integration with nonprofit tools like Blackbaud, Candid, and Benevity; as well as a free use case guide and a AI Fluency for Nonprofits AI training course for beginners.

The company notes that its advanced Cloud Sonnet 4.5 and advanced coding models have also been trained for grant writing and program analysis. Meanwhile, it has security-oriented Haiku 4.5, which speeds up processing at a lower cost. Both are available for cloud users at nonprofits. The cloud can also connect to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, and Box.

Adoption of AI in the nonprofit sector has been scattered, in part due to persistent skepticism about the security, privacy, and reliability of generic AI and the nature of the field’s work. Many organizations are working hard to devote the resources and time to the training and infrastructure necessary to ethically integrate the technology amid threatened funding streams, while others view its use as contrary to their mission. Nevertheless, recent data shows widespread interest, but preparation is low and adoption slow. Of the many AI developers and tech funders who have tried, few have been able to fully fill those gaps.

Cloud for Nonprofits is thus designed to support the technical infrastructure needs of nonprofits. Anthropic wrote, “Nonprofits, often with limited resources, tackle some of society’s toughest problems.” “From our partners, we know that AI helps most when it fits into existing workflows, maintains the privacy their communities expect, and is affordable.” The developer has also partnered with non-profit consulting organizations to provide tailored support to organizations.

According to Anthropic, the cloud is already used by organizations like the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the YMCA, and the Epilepsy Foundation — the IRC also recently announced its own in-house chatbot, specifically designed to provide emergency aid and assistance to refugee populations in the U.S. The cloud for nonprofits will be piloted among a group of 60 organizations that include Constellation Fund, Robin Hood, and Tipping Points receives grants from funders such as Community.
