Matt Motyl, a senior Meta researcher, said the company’s TikTok rival, Instagram Reels, was launched in 2020 without adequate security measures. Internal research shared with the BBC showed that the prevalence of bullying and harassment, hate speech and violence or incitement in comments on Reels was significantly higher on Instagram than elsewhere.
