Not keeping both apps “durable”
Online complaints show that AcuRite has customers who are satisfied with the capabilities of My AcuRite. However, maintaining the app long term isn’t sustainable for AcuRite, Bowie said.
“The technology behind My AcuRite is outdated and can no longer be maintained,” he said.
AcuRite is declining to maintain the two apps to save money but because of “long-term supportability,” the executive said.
“Even if [My AcuRite] While continuing to work for many users, the underlying systems require ongoing maintenance, updates, hosting, monitoring, security support and compatibility work as phones, operating systems, cloud services and third-party integrations continue to change,” Bowie said.
New online dashboard is coming
As AcuRite announced the demise of its first app, it also removed the online dashboard that let users manage their devices through a web browser.
“Because the web dashboard, mobile apps, cloud services, and device connections were all tied into a single legacy system, browser access could not be maintained separately after the platform was shut down,” Bowie explained.
He said AcuRite is now planning a new web-based dashboard for AcuRite, but he could not confirm a release date.
Despite customer disappointment, Bowie is hopeful that the new app will not cause longtime users to abandon their devices, as AcuRite “had to spend a lot more to bring those older weather stations over to the new platform”.
Bowie said, “We know the move to AcuRight Now has not been as smooth as some customers had hoped, and we understand the frustration this has caused. We are not dismissing that feedback.” “We are asking for patience as our team continues to fix issues, improve usability, and build the new platform. Our goal is to earn back trust by making AcuRite Now the best user experience in home weather stations.”
