Take a deep breath and steel your nerves: “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is coming to streaming. The latest entry in the classic action-adventure franchise starring Tom Cruise will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on December 4.
Starring Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg and more, “The Final Reckoning” begins in the wake of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” as Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his globetrotting team of agents continue their mission to destroy a mysterious and all-powerful AI, the Entity, before it falls into the wrong hands.
Other returning cast members include Briggs (Shea Wingham), Erica Sloane (Angela Bassett), Luther (Ving Rhames), Gabriel (Essie Morales) and Paris (Pom Klementieff). Franchise newcomers Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Katie O’Brien, Holt McCallany and Trammell Tillman also star. “The Final Reckoning” is the eighth installment of the 29-year-old franchise, which began with Brian De Palma’s original 1996 film.
“The Final Reckoning” premiered on May 14 at a special, out-of-competition presentation at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, with both Cruise and writer-director Christopher McQuarrie in attendance. McQuarrie has directed the previous three installments of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, including ‘Rogue Nation’ in 2015, ‘Fallout’ in 2018 and ‘Dead Reckoning’ in 2023.
Following the Cannes premiere, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” opened in theaters in the United States on May 23. Although “The Final Reckoning” marks the first time a “Mission: Impossible” film has premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Cruise is no stranger to Cannes, having previously attended Ron Howard’s “Far and Away” and “Top Gun: Maverick” in 1992. 2022.
