Perez has been very busy during the election, with his men having closed deals with Jose Mourinho, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, the latter of whom will arrive from Inter on a €20m deal. But Riquelme has also been doing his work behind the scenes and has now publicly revealed his plans ahead of the election.

Speaking on El Hormiguero (via Diario AS), Riquelme revealed that he would sign Erling Haaland if elected as Real Madrid president this weekend. He claimed that the Norwegian striker is keen to join the Bernabeu club, and is able to do so through a clause in his Manchester City contract.
Riquelme also claimed that Haaland’s Man City teammate Rodri Hernandez would also join him if he was elected, going so far as to say that he would personally pay the membership fees of all Real Madrid members if he broke his promise.
“I promised that I would leave under a notary that if I am president nothing of the club will be sold, it will belong to its members. And again, I do not have Florentino’s trajectory, I have not been president. So I promise that the two players that I have announced, and I have signed my personal notary guarantee, if I fail to comply with this I will reimburse the full fee of the 100,000 members of Real Madrid. “Will pay 100%. Haaland has a condition and he wants to come to Real Madrid.”

It should be remembered that Pérez himself used similar tactics when he was first elected as Real Madrid president in 2000. At the time, he had fulfilled his promise to take over Luis Figo from Barcelona, so it will be interesting to see if this is used to remove him from the club after 26 years at the helm.
It is no secret that Haaland is a player that Real Madrid have admired for many years. They have so far failed to sign him, but Riquelme firmly believes he is the one who can achieve it – but whether that happens, or whether he gets the chance to do so, remains to be seen.
