Smart glasses maker Even Realities has today unveiled Terminal Mode, which enables you to keep an eye on your AI coding agent even when you’re not at your desk. Developers will be able to monitor what their AI agent is doing in real time, and respond to its requests for assistance from the comfort of their own face.
Essentially, if you have a pair of its G2 smart glasses, you’ll get a permanent icon telling you what the agent is doing. When it’s thinking, listening, or executing, you can pay less attention to it than you do on a regular basis. But, when it requires your attention, you’ll be notified of it and, if you use the eOne G2’s controller Ring, can immediately respond to your ‘bots request’ for assistance. Users can either choose from a pre-programmed response on the menu, or activate voice recognition to bark a custom instruction at their digital assistant.
I’m on the record as being a fan of Even Realities glasses, I gave the G1 a lot of praise when I tested them last year. For example, they may not be as feature-rich as Meta’s offerings, but they certainly excel at what they’re designed for. However, my colleague Sam Rutherford found the G2 to be a little rough around the edges when testing a prototype last November.
Even Reality CEO Will Wang says this mode is designed to free coders from the hassle of having to keep an eye on their computer or phone while the agent is active. Wang says it will enable people to stay connected to their agents “during a coffee break, commute, workout or errand.” And, presumably, that’s when they need to better focus on finding and fixing errors inside their other AI-generated code. Who knows, it may even enable developers to keep an eye on their bots before unilaterally erasing their entire production code.
