For customers who have purchased FSD, we are essentially offering a discounted trade-in for cars that have AI4 hardware. We will also provide the ability to upgrade the car to replace the computer. And unfortunately, to go to Hardware 4 you also need to change cameras. To do this efficiently, we need to set up microfactories, or small factories, in major metropolitan areas to do this efficiently. If this is done at a service center, it is extremely slow and inefficient to do so. We basically need mini production lines to make a difference.
I think over time it would make sense for us to convert all Hardware 3 cars to Hardware 4, as this is what enables them to enter robotaxi fleets and have unsupervised FSD.
