DC Hopes Static Can Be a Thing in Comics Again

There’s been a lot going on in the Big Two comics over the past few years, and one quietly ongoing thread concerns Static. (Don’t add “shock”) The fan-favorite, electrocuted hero is back in action in the 2020s, usually with the rest of the Milestone Universe following suit. For this next effort, DC is trying to be less ambitious and put Virgil Hawkins where he can make the best impact.

Apparently, it’s in the pages of Tate Bromble and Sami Basri new titans. The publisher’s August 2026 solicitation reveals Static joining the team with issue 38, joining the team’s current lineup that includes Nightwing, Terra, Batgirl (Stephanie Brown), and Wonder Girl (Yara Flor). Looks like he’s coming at just the right time, as the team is heading into the Amazon rainforest for their first real outing as a team. Whatever is going down, Static will play a big role in the events to come.

Previously, Static was recently back in the DC spotlight with the Batman Beyond crossover book dakota incident Once, I New History of DC Universe and a DC KO The tie-in put him at odds with some of his future teammates. dakota Co-writer Joseph P. Illidge stated that Static is in “Act Two” of his comeback, so the intention here is clearly to ensure that Virgil sticks around for more than a few months. But ask any Static fan, and they’ll tell you we’ve been here before, so we’ll wait and see if this fee actually goes into effect.

new titans #38 will be released on August 19, with a short four-page prologue setting Static up in July. New Titans #37.
