However, a certain cast member whose character remains a mystery is Sadie Sink. It was rumored that Sink would be playing the role of Jean Grey, when her casting was first announced, but there has been no confirmation until now. However, a new synopsis on the film’s official website has raised those odds significantly. it reads:
It’s a brand new day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him – and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him – brings about a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control. But that change may be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the town and its loved ones – a powerful villain no one can even see coming.
The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but it hasn’t forgotten him.
The description “a powerful villain that no one can even see” does not match any confirmed villains from the film, but it could describe Grey, one of the most powerful mutants in the world. Gray cannot be invisible in the traditional sense, but with telekinetic cloaking abilities she can make herself effectively invisible.
It’s interesting that the synopsis describes the new mysterious character as “a powerful villain” – if this refers to Grey, then introducing him as an outright villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than a complex character who oscillates between heroic and villainous tendencies seems like an odd choice.
We’re unlikely to get any more clarity on Sink’s character until Spider-Man: Brand New Day Debuts in theaters on July 31. In the meantime, you can pre-purchase tickets for the film starting Wednesday, June 17.
