Apple’s $599 Mac Mini is no longer available

Apple has removed its cheapest Mac mini option, a compact 256GB desktop brain that previously cost Apple buyers just $599.

First reported by MacRumors, the tech giant’s new lineup starts with the Mac mini at the company’s $799, 512GB option. The more expensive model runs on Apple’s M4 chip and offers the same 16GB of RAM as the $599 model, but with twice the storage.

Last week, Apple halted orders for the then-sold-out 256GB Mac Mini, signaling a change in the lineup. Apple CEO Tim Cook – who recently announced he was leaving the company after 14 years – said on a recent earnings call that Mac mini supply is currently constrained due to global manufacturing pressure and it may be difficult to meet current demand. Tech companies and AI enthusiasts are facing a global memory chip shortage that is expected to worsen next year.

Cook himself attributed the increase in Mac Mini orders to the device’s AI capabilities, with the Mac Mini now advertised to have Apple Intelligence processing power. Users have gravitated towards portable computers amid a surge in interest in agentic AI following the launch of the open-source AI agent framework OpenClaw (formerly known as both Moltbot and Cloudbot).
