Annota: Cross Platform, Local First AI powered Note Taking App

The app already comes with a lot of features: – PDF/images upload with automatic compression and duplicate detection – Fully WYSIWYG beautiful editor (custom blocks like flashcards, “/” commands, etc.) – AI integration: Currently it’s simple: In-line quick rewrite or chat bot: For privacy I have a smart RAG like FTS5 based search and smart reference builder to reduce token usage (it’s actually super token friendly). ) can select folders/notes and by input it will score and take important part of notes in context. (I want to improve AI usage but want to put it on hold until I come up with a perfect solution and integration) – Completely offline free local option if you choose not to log in – If you choose to log in, everything on the backend (supbase – you can check out the docs on github to see how I set it up super secure) Everything is encrypted locally (files and notes data) so the server can’t access anything. Can’t see. – Export (PDF/Markdown) and import from Markdown – Note linking, Open Task detection system and much more! ———- (?) Feel free to suggest how to integrate AI or any other ideas that would make this app more useful. (My intention is not to make this an “all capable” app, but to keep it focused on the note taking aspect and make it excellent). I already have the MCP server plan in mind, but it’s hard to come up with a balance of privacy vs. productivity so I’ll probably implement it later. (?) I also have in mind a good way to extend the editor in specific ways with custom blocks instead of bloating the editor, so I have plans for the future. I really think this became our very nice, easy to maintain architecture and very scalable editor (I could extend it with custom blocks but also be mobile friendly in a way) – also feel free to join the Discord server, contribute to GitHub and suggest anything. I’m using this app for personal use, so I’ll probably change it to my liking, but I’d like other people to enjoy it too. – I have also posted some blog posts about some architecture, feel free to check it out at https://lirans.online/.
