Zach started running restaurants at the age of 17 and became his own owner at the age of 19. She worked in five restaurants under Michelin chefs. A common theme in the restaurant industry is called “organized chaos”, when a situation appears completely chaotic but actually has an underlying structure.
We talked to 32 restaurants in the Washington, DC area and found that while most were surviving on organized chaos, key details were slipping through the cracks. At a busy Indian restaurant near our college, the phones went off and went unanswered. Even when he picked up the phone there, his order was immediately entered into Toast or Square and disconnected, with no record of who called.
We felt there needed to be a smarter, more data-friendly way for takeout-heavy restaurant owners to handle incoming phone orders and build a real understanding of their returning customers.
