Hollywood finally sets its sights on making a remake birds.

According to Deadline, the new series will be a limited TV series courtesy of Universal’s International Studios offshoot. Described as an “inner, present-day reimagining” of the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film, Sarah Snook (all his fault) Myra will play the role of Macy, a traveling magistrate returning to her isolated Alaska hometown. It is here that she finds her childhood friend dead and sets out to uncover what happened, occasionally hampered by bird attacks without any rhyme or reason.

Hitchcock’s birds It initially received a mixed reception, but is now considered one of the best horror films of all time, and is influential on filmmakers such as Guillermo del Toro and John Carpenter. Since 2007, there have been some attempts to update it for modern times, and there was even an attempt to franchise it with an unrelated (and widely panned) made-for-TV sequel in 1994. Both the film and this new show are based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1952 short story, but where the film was based on, the show is said to be more inspired by the source material.

universal is developing it birds Show for “more than a year”. Snook is the only star linked at this time, but we’ll have more on that as news comes out.
