Nevertheless, its approach to these issues still proved timely and bold, especially for a big-budget Disney animated film. (And yes, I wonder Zootopia Can I do it, it tells me about succumbing to film-based stereotypes myself.) The Linksleys are descendants of one of the founders of Zootopia, and they want Gary (and everyone associated with him) dead. For Nick, this is reason enough to withdraw from the case, but Judy is hell-bent on helping Gary – and, by extension, all reptile-kind in Zootopia.

When I say, “all reptile-types in Zootopia,” you might be a little confused. After all, there were only mammals in the first movie, right? Correct! bearing this in mind, zootopia 2 Spends most of his time asking, “Why aren’t there more reptiles in a city for animals?” The answer is not pretty.
Turns out, there’s an entire neighborhood for aquatic and semi-aquatic mammals, as well as Zootopia’s “secret” reptile population. Named the Marsh Market, it was cut off from the rest of Zootopia during the city’s founding. According to beaver conspiracy theorist Nibbles Maplestick (voiced by Fortune Feemster), isolation means the residents of Marsh Market have more freedom. But it also means they’re isolated from the rest of the city, which tends to treat the reptiles with a dismissive eye. Segregation takes into account the segregated neighborhoods created by racist urban planning. If you’ve ever wondered if Zootopia had its own version of New York City’s Robert Moses, the answer is yes.

He hopes to expand Zootopia’s Tundratown district, a move that sounds like gentrification at best – which is still not good! – and in the worst case scenario, the rapid destruction of entire zootopian communities.

The original film highlights how discrimination manifests itself in bureaucracy as well as in inter-animal relationships. zootopia 2 It goes a step further to show that discrimination is rampant in urban areas, making its charming animal metropolis somewhat bleak. (One plot point involving the lost reptile neighborhood actually made me wonder whether Zootopia 2′was the creator of Strongly influenced by the history of settlements such as New York City’s Seneca Village, a community of predominantly black landowners that was displaced to make way for the construction of Central Park.)
Absolutely, zootopia 2 does not dive Very Dig deeper into the nuances of city isolation. It’s not like Judy Hopps suddenly found out about redlining! Instead, the film opts for a more standard adventure plot involving new allies, adventurous plans, and another gazelle (voiced by Shakira).
Still, equally familiar zootopia 2 Its more subversive origins, it seems, cannot be denied. Yes, this film is strongest in its more traditional message about accepting our differences. (Case in point: the partnership between polar opposites Judy and Nick.) But that’s what happens when it deals with complicated, ugly truths about discrimination. Zootopia The franchise differentiates itself even further from its Disney compatriots.
