Yermak’s resignation came after his home and reportedly his office were searched earlier in the day by authorities as part of a corruption investigation. Yermak is accused of being linked to a bribery scheme involving Ukraine’s state nuclear power company Energoatom.
The senior official had led Kiev’s team in tense US-backed peace talks.
Zelense said Yermak had submitted his resignation and that he would review candidates for the post on Saturday.
The wide-ranging investigation into high-level corruption has drawn the ire of senior officials and heightened public frustration.
“Russia very much wants Ukraine to make mistakes,” Zelensky said in a video address. “There will be no mistake on our part. Our work continues.”
