X appears to be working again after battling an outage that took the service offline and slowed loading for most of the morning. According to X’s developer platform page, there is an ongoing incident related to streaming endpoints that is causing an increase in errors. According to the page, the event began at 7:39 a.m. PT.
This roughly coincides with the increase in reports of Down Detector. The issues seemed to be somewhat intermittent. At some points, X’s website loaded partially and only old posts were shown. Other times, apps and websites failed to load at all.
As of 9:30 a.m. PT, X’s Explore and Trending pages were loading, but the “Following” tab was not showing posts and instead suggested users “find some people and topics to follow” (as shown in the screenshot below).

As of 11:15 a.m. PT, X’s developer site was still indicating ongoing issues, so while the website appears to be working normally again, there may still be some issues. There has also been a significant decline in reports on Down Detector.
X did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the outage. As techcrunch Note, this is the second time this week that X has faced significant problems. The service was down for many users around the world on Tuesday as well.

Bluesky changed his profile photo at the beginning of the week. (x)
But while the latest issues were widespread, some posts were still ongoing. Rival Bluesky, which changed its profile picture on X earlier in the week to its butterfly logo in a bikini, took the opportunity to throw some shade.
At 1 p.m. PT, X updated its status page to indicate that the issue had been resolved after nearly six hours. The underlying cause was not explained in detail.
Update, January 16, 2026, 2:09 PM PT: Updated with the latest information from X’s status page.
