X has finally revealed its long-promised chat platform, replacing the service’s basic DM functionality with features like messaging capabilities found on other mainstream apps. The update includes privacy-focused features like voice and video calling, file sharing, and the ability to edit and delete previously sent messages, as well as end-to-end encryption and screenshot notifications.
According to the company, the overhauled messaging feature called Chat is now live on iOS and the web and “coming soon” to Android. X also said it is working on a voice memo feature for users to exchange audio messages.

X also says that “we do not provide protection against man-in-the-middle attacks,” which could compromise an encrypted chat. The company explains, “As a result, if someone – a malicious insider or X himself as a result of a mandatory legal process – compromises an encrypted conversation, neither the sender nor the receiver will know.” X says it is working on features that will help users verify the authenticity of encrypted conversations.
